The “Bangkok: City of Delicious Food” festival is taking place at the Siam Paragon Shopping Complex from 2 to 5 September 2016, between 11:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Organized by the Department of Cultural Promotion, the food festival showcases the strength of Thai food and Thai wisdom. A variety of international food, such as ASEAN, European, American, and Mexican food, are also featured at the food festival.

Apart from preserving Thai food culture, the event also aims to make Thai food better known among Thais and foreign tourists. It also promotes food cultural exchange among various countries. Also participating in the festival are popular food shops and the best street food stalls in Bangkok. Other activities include a demonstration of food preparation, an exhibition, and cultural performances. There are several food zones, such as Thai royal cuisine, Thai food registered as cultural heritage, and rare food.

Thai cookery can be classified as an art and an essential part of the nation’s cultural heritage. Each region of the country has its specific dishes and dining methods, depending on the culture and weather conditions that prevail. Such regional specialties reflect the local wisdom of the region, with recipes thought up and improved in accordance with available resources and the region’s unique cultural traits. The special quality of Thai food is its ability to reflect three key values: nutritional, cultural, and medical. It involves the use of fresh ingredients, well-trained natural talent in cooking methods and presentation techniques, and the generous use of herbs and spices.
